Design, Product,
Open Source.

Boring Design is a boutique studio. We work with independent developers to design and build productivity tools, one project at a time, from sketch to launch.

This page is a short note about what we’ve shipped, how we work, and what we’re building next. If any of it sounds useful, say hello. You can also find us on Discord.

What we build, together

Simplicity holds power. A user-friendly tool not only streamlines work, it brings joy.

Our services

Three ways we can show up for you.

Software is hard, especially for independent developers. We try to help where we can, in the shape that fits the project. No retainers, no account managers, no decks. We share a Figma file, a private channel, and a calendar, and we ship in weeks, not quarters.

  • 01Free. Free product and interface design help for independent developers we believe in. Limited slots each year.
  • 02Pro. A professional engagement with our full team. Faster turnaround, higher quality, end-to-end design and build.
  • 03Partner. A long-term partnership on a product we both believe in. Cash, equity, or some mix of the two.

If you have something in mind, write to [email protected].

Where we’re going

Three goals for the next three years.

This is our public roadmap, and the original reason we started the studio. We re-read it when we’re tempted to drift.

01
Build two or more paid products people love.
Useful, paid productivity tools that earn their place. The foundation that lets the studio keep existing on its own terms.
02
Support twenty or more independent developers.
Free design and engineering help for indie devs we believe in. Some shipped together, some quietly helped along the way.
03
Sponsor twenty or more open source projects.
Through code, design, money, or community work. The open web is how we got here; we owe it back, on purpose.

Writing

Notes from the studio. Usually about a thing we just shipped.

Contact

Creating products, harvesting joy.

If something here resonates: a project you’re starting, a problem you keep circling, a product you wish existed. Say hello. We answer everything, eventually.
